Pakistan Shines at the WESPAC 2025

Pakistan is making headlines at the World Scrabble Championship as five Pakistani players deliver strong performances, led by the exceptional run of Waseem Khatri, who has surged into 2nd place after 24 rounds. With an impressive 18 victories, a towering +1001 spread, and a historic win over the world’s greatest Scrabble player, Nigel Richards, Waseem now stands on the brink of making history. Only eight more games remain before the top two players advance to the highly anticipated Best-of-7 Grand Final, and Pakistan has never been this close to the world title.

The defining moment of Waseem’s tournament came in Round 15, where he defeated Nigel Richards — the multiple-time world champion and global icon of the game — in a thrilling 394–388 victory. The result sent shockwaves through the event and instantly positioned Waseem as one of the strongest contenders for the championship.

Throughout the tournament, Waseem has shown world-class form, securing major wins against elite competitors across England, Singapore, the United States, Africa, and Canada. His standout victories include a massive 575–357 triumph over Roland Boykai and a commanding 556–415 win against Samson Okosagah. Even his rare losses came in close battles against some of the top-ranked players in the world, proving both resilience and consistency under pressure.

But Waseem is not the only Pakistani player making waves this year. Pakistan’s overall presence in the tournament is one of its strongest ever:

  • Rank 2 — Waseem Khatri (18–6, +1001)

  • Rank 40 — Hassan Khan (14–10)

  • Rank 74 — Muhammad Inayatullah (+590 spread)

  • Rank 86 — Aehzam Ahmed

  • Rank 105 — Tariq Pervez

Together, these players reflect Pakistan’s growing strength and depth in mind sports, proving that the country is no longer just participating — it is competing with and challenging the best players in the world.

With eight vital rounds remaining, anticipation is at an all-time high. If Waseem maintains his current form, Pakistan could witness its yet another appearance in the WESPAC Final, a proud moment for the nation!

The entire Scrabble community in Pakistan and abroad now watches with excitement, pride, and hope. The path to the world title is within reach, and Waseem Khatri — along with a determined Pakistani contingent — is ready to take on the challenge.

Pakistan stands proud. The world is watching. And the final chapters of this story are about to unfold.
