Pakistan Dominates at the World Youth Scrabble Championship 2024

Day-One of the three day championship was completely dominated by Pakistani players with no less than 6 Pakistanis in the top ten at the end of the first day

12 years old Ahmed Salman was in scintillating form winning all his 8 games and occupying the top slot. He is the only unbeaten players out of 138 players so far in the championship

Ahmed’s elder brother, 16 year old Affan Salman is currently 2nd with 7 wins and a spread of 992 while India’s Madhav Kamath is 3rd with 7 wins and a spread of 630. Pakistan’s Aehzam Ahmed also has 7 wins and is lying 4th at the moment

Pakistan’s Bilal Asher is 5th, Manaal Asher is 6th and Muhammad Yaadan is 10th. Among the non Asian players there is only one player from Nigeria, one from the UK and one from Australia among the top 20

In the side tournament for adults Pakistan’s Waseem Khatri is on top at the end of day one. Waseem has a 6-1 record. Sudhir Kamath of India is currently 2nd while Suresh Chinnayah of Sri Lanka is 3rd

Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. Tariq Pervez of Pakistan who is the new Chairman of the World Youth committee

Another 9 games will be played on Saturday
